The Borg were a hostile species led by a queen. In the 2380s, a temporal anomaly brought their queen back to life, and they proceeded to attack the Federation. In 2389, the Borg once again reared their heads. John Benson, who was in command of the Enterprise at the time, was killed in the attack.[a]
