Data was a Soong-type android Starfleet officer who served aboard the USS Enterprise-E as its operations officer until 2380, when he sacrificed himself to save the crew of the Enterprise.

Prior to his death, Data had given a recommendation for Miranda Kadohata to replace him at ops, after his promotion to first officer of the USS Enterprise-E.[a] Template:R inquired about her service under Mr. Data, to which she responded that "he always could cheer me up when I was down," indicating a fairly close-knit friendship between the two.
