"Khitomer Crisis" is the first chapter of the zeroth volume of Star Trek: Federation Legacy written in ca. December 2012 and published on 11 June 2013 by CaptFredricks.

When the Borg attack the Vega colony, the USS Leviathan is ordered to join up with Starfleet there. They encounter the USS Khitomer, which has been boarded by drones, and Jason Fredricks leads an away team over to assist the Khitomer's crew.

Teaser

A Starfleet vessel is being pummeled by an unknown vessel, and its crew is barely able to keep the ship together. The captain of the Starfleet vessel orders his tactical officer, Jason Fredricks, to fire upon the enemy. The operations officer gives a report on their ship's sad state, and the captain realizes this may be the end for them. The enemy, now revealed to be Klingon, fires upon the Starfleet vessel, injuring Jason and waking him up; he was simply having a nightmare. He then calms himself and goes back to sleep.

• It was originally the first chapter of the first volume of the story, but it was rewritten and replaced by "The Price of Liberty" on 2 January 2014. It is now the first chapter of the zeroth volume.
• It was originally published in three segments before being condensed into one.
