Lenerea Mendel[2] was a female half-Trill, half-Human[1] who lived during the 24th and 25th centuries. She served in Starfleet as communications officer of the USS Vengeance[3] and held the rank of lieutenant junior grade as of 2410.[4]

Prior to the Vengeance, Lenerea served as communications officer of the USS Leviathan[5] and as a junior linguist on Starbase 24.[1]

Biography[]

Early life[]

Lenerea was born on 19 June 2386 (62401.6) on the USS Aventine to Jack Mendel and Ezri Dax. Her sister, Nara, was born sometime in 2388.

Lenerea attended the Leran Manev School of Linguistics and graduated on stardate 78785.5 with the Class of 2404.[1]

Starfleet Academy[]

She enrolled at Starfleet Academy in 2404, and her primary studies were linguistics and dance.[1]

On stardate 82513.9, Lenerea attended the Class of 2408 graduation ceremony in San Francisco on Earth. She showed displeasure at Jason Fredricks' valedictory, even referring to him as a "jackass".[2]

Early Starfleet career[]

Lenerea and Dylyp Azeli were briefly stationed on Starbase 24 until stardate 83234.7, when they were transferred to the USS Leviathan under the command of Lenerea's old flame, Jason Fredricks.[6] Lenerea took up the vacant communications officer position that had been left by Hannah Freeman.[5][7]

Service on the USS Leviathan[]

On stardate 83245.3, Jason took temporary leave from command of the Leviathan, and his stand-in, Commander Jarek Davis, removed Lenerea from the bridge communications station and told her to report to the science duty head.[8]

She was part of the group of senior officers who opposed Davis' unorthodox methods of running the ship, and even suspected him of being a Tal Shiar agent. They planned to report him to Starfleet Command, but Davis caught on to their suspicions of him and had them all locked in the brig. Later, she and the other senior officers retook the bridge from Jules Vanden, who had been left in command while Davis was down on the Treasure Trading Station.[9]

Relationships[]

Crewmates[]

Jason Fredricks[]

Lenerea and Jason were involved in a romantic relationship during their days at Starfleet Academy. After hearing rumors of her having an affair with another Starfleet cadet, Jason ended their relationship, however, he later regretted it.

Lucas Wells attempted to get them to make amends, though initially, they refused. Later on, though, both of them came to realize that they were wrong for holding onto their hatred for one another.[10]

During Jason's valedictory, Lenerea referred to him as a "complete jackass". Fellow cadet Daniel Harvey offered to "rough 'im up", but Lenerea ignored him.[2]

Jason often affectionately referred to her as "Len".[6]

Lucas Wells[]

In 2409, after patching things up with Jason, Lenerea decided to ignore his advances and began to gravitate towards his friend, Lucas Wells. The two went on at least one dinner date together.[11]

Elisa Flores[]

Lenerea and Elisa were roommates at Starfleet Academy. According to Elisa, Lenerea was not very good at "keeping a guy". She would always back out of relationships when they got too serious for her taste. This behavior even escalated to the point that she slept with another cadet while she was dating Jason to make him break up with her.[12]

Starfleet[]

Lenerea dated Jeff Philips sometime in her early Academy years, but they had broken up with him by the time she met Jason.[citation needed]

Background and trivia[]

  • Pronunciation: LEN-ə-RAY-ə men-DEL
  • Her first name is entirely fictional and was generated by Star Trek Online. Her surname is German and derives from a diminutive of the name Meino, which comes from the Old German element megin, meaning "power, strength". A notable bearer of the name was Gregor Mendel, an Austrian biologist later recognized as the founder of modern genetics.[13]
  • Lenerea was originally a bridge officer for CaptFredricks' STO character, Jason Fredricks. Her character was developed and briefly seen in "Khitomer Crisis" (later "The Price of Liberty"). She became a main character starting in "Researcher Rescue".
    • Her debut in "The Price of Liberty" was cut during a 2023 revision, but she is still mentioned in the chapter. She now debuts in "Researcher Rescue".
  • Lenerea was originally to be born on Trill on 19 January 2386 (62021.4), but Capt changed this while making her personnel file to better line up with events in the Star Trek: The Fall book series regarding Lenerea's mother.
